Gluten-Free Thanksgiving Dinner Stuffing (And Don’t Forget The Pie!)

Gluten-Free Thankfulness! Even though you’re following a gluten-free diet you can still enjoy your stuffing on Thanksgiving Day. One more thing to be thankful for!

Our family always looks forward to stuffing on Thanksgiving Day. We’re not big fans of the turkey. But we generally cave and buy one every year. This year Thanksgiving Day snuck up on us and we were scrambling to get a natural allergen-free turkey over the weekend. And then wound up in Costco and found they were selling free range, organic turkeys. We bought one there, too, and froze it for New Year’s Day.

Bake Up A Loaf Of Celeste’s Best Gluten-Free Bread For Your Stuffing

Luckily my husband had his mind on the Thanksgiving Stuffing and reminded me to bake an extra loaf of bread this week for it. I was going to bake the regular recipe but decided to go with the Gluten-Free, Yeast-Free Multi-Grain Loaf instead.

Gluten-Free Stuffing Recipe Variations

There are several variations to the the Baked Stuffing recipe on pages 189 – 190 in my cookbook Celeste’s Best Gluten-Free, Allergen-Free Recipes. We double the recipe and then use the variation of adding the sautéed mushrooms.

You can also try seasoning your bread with onion and garlic before toasting it. And adding 1 cup diced granny smith apple along with the onion and celery is always a big hit, too.

Often we’ve made oyster stuffing by adding chopped oysters to the stuffing recipe. While we enjoyed the stuffing prepared this way we enjoy fried oysters more (our traditional holiday morning) and usually would rather save the oysters for that instead.

Spicing up Your Thanksgiving Meal

When I was buying some more spices to replace all my McCormick spices my husband once again had his mind on the stuffing and was almost frantic trying to get the words out to make sure we had all the spices we needed to prepare this all important part of our meal. (He really loves stuffing – can you tell?) Actually I hadn’t even thought of that, because Thanksgiving is one meal I don’t cook. My husband, thankfully, cooks the whole meal.

Gluten-Free Thanksgiving Pies

I do a bit of cooking, though, the day before Thanksgiving and bake a pie to top off our dinner. Usually it’s either Sweet Potato Pie or Pumpkin Pie. Haven’t decided which I’d rather have just yet.

Will it be Gluten-Free Pumpkin Pie this year or or Gluten-Free Sweet Potato Pie????
