Gluten-Free, Allergen-Free, No GMOs Halloween Candy

This is the only time in my adult life our family is living in a neighborhood. Normally we lived on a few acres out in the country and while we loved that lifestyle we missed one thing. And it might surprise you what that was. Halloween Trick-or-Treaters.

I think one of the first things that went through my daughter’s mind and my own as well when we saw the development we’d be living in was – we’d finally be able to have children in Halloween costumes come knocking at our door shouting, “Trick or Treat!”

But now I had a small problem. After all the research I’d done on GMOs and gluten intolerance and GMOs and autism was I really going to hand out candy full of GMOs? I had a hard enough time just giving kids candy so I knew I probably go for more of a small Halloween toy or novelty.

So I came across these at Costco:

Seasonal pencils make a great non-allergen treat.

The pencils are great for all kids, even those with most allergies. So I knew I they were a pretty safe bet. Kids would use them, too, so they weren’t just a throw away treat which pleased my eco-friendly side.

You can find some on Amazon, too:

Stickers are a nice option but won’t work for many with gluten or corn allergies as often the adhesive backing is made with one or the other. But some companies like Mrs. Grossman’s sell stickers that are gluten-free but they could not confirm that they are corn-free.

But my daughter was bound and determined we were going to give our trick-or-treaters candy, too. So I searched around and found Yummy Earth Organic Lollipops.  Their facilities are free of peanuts, tree nuts, gluten, dairy, wheat, soy, sesame, shellfish, and eggs.  In 2011 one of the founders of the company was diagnosed with Celiac and understands the challenges we face.

Now our house almost never has candy, well except for chocolate, so when the Yummy Earth Organic Lollipops arrived for Halloween everyone decided to sample them. Have to say we all thought they’d be awful but boy were we wrong! They are fantastic!

So this is what the container looked like last week, after everyone (my husband especially) kept dipping into the bucket for another one:

So I broke down and bought a large bag of Yummy Earth Organic Lollipops from Amazon:

Now I’m just trying to keep my guys away from them until after Halloween so maybe I’ll have a few of these gluten-free, allergen-free, non-GMO treats left!
