Good-Bye Hershey's And McCormick And Other Opponents Of Prop 37

I wonder why would a company fight against labeling a product that contains GMOs? If GMOs were a good thing – why would it matter if they were in the foods you eat?

Hmmm . . .  there it is. GMOs are not a good thing. But they’re cheap. And manufacturers who use them make more money by using them so they want to keep using them.

An earlier blog post brought to light that many gluten-free diets often contain high amounts of GMOs in the form of corn and soy than most probably realized. Eating foods containing GMOs is now believed to contribute to the inflammation and leaky gut many with celiacs, autism and other food allergies are already experiencing.

I have a huge problem with companies who opposed Prop 37 and our right to know what's in our foods. It's obvious they don't have our best interest in mind. I no longer choose to support them and refuse to buy from companies who opposed Prop 37 and tried to prevent me from knowing what’s in my food and GMO labeling.

Even companies who’s products I used for years.

Hershey’s and GMOs

To me Hershey was a company as American as apple pie and Chevrolet. It has always been a mainstay in my gluten-free kitchen. To discover that Hershey was producing non-GMO products for European countries while still making GMO products for us, here in the states, sickened me.

Why?

Why should those of us in America – the birthplace of Hershey – eat a version of their products full of GMOs, while other countries are spared this?

And are you ready for this - Hershey spent a whopping $498,006.72 to try to prevent you from knowing what’s in the food you're eating, your family is eating – your children are eating.

McCormick Spices and GMOs

McCormick Spices supporting the fight against us knowing what was in our food actually totally shocked me. I've continually bought McCormick spices because I thought they were the best choice for those of us following a gluten-free diet. I often choose spices from McCormick over those from other companies even though they were often priced slightly higher. All that said it's why finding out the McCormick company was an opponent of Prop 37 really set me back a peg or two.

And what really surprised me was that they put a lot of money behind the campaign to prevent Prop 37 and our right to know what was in our food from passing.

My real question was why? What is in all their products that they needed to take out the big guns and spend a few hundred thousand dollars to prevent us from knowing?

McCormick spent $248,200.00 to keep us in the dark.

And again it begs us to ask the question that may be continually running through your mind, the way it is mine:

If GMOs Are Really So Great Why Can’t We Know They’re In Our Food?

Hmmm . . . .
